It is a timeless classic loved by young children. This book arrived with a library sticker and teacher's name in sharpie. A little baking soda and water scrubbed it clean. Wonderful condition! Great buy.

This made Chrysanthemum feel special about herself, her name, and with the people she had to go to school with. One reason this is one of my favorite books is the story itself. It is simply told, but easily understood. It sparks good discussions about Character, Self Esteem, Family, Correct and Incorrect behavior for children in school settings, Feelings about one's self, and Taking Pride in one's work. I highly recommend this book for ages 4-8. Discussions are good for Guidance Counselors, or Classroom Teachers through their weekly Guidance lessons. I am a Retired Early Childhood Classroom Teacher that also worked with University Interns. I had given my copy away, and this is to replace mine. I plan to mentor and aide children that could use extra help with reading. I am beginning to replenish my beloved choices. Then when I am ready to begin working with Children I will have my own copies that I treasure. This will reflect in my voice as I read, and on my face, as I express how Chrysanthemum felt throughout the story. Thank you, Linda Strickland

Great Children's Book!!
My kids and I absolutely love this book! I'm always concerned about my kids being as resilient as possible to the teasing they will likely experience at school. This book addresses this problem in a very creative and entertaining way. This is a story about a little mouse who's parents named her Chrysanthemum because it was the "perfect" name for her. The little mouse loves her name until she enters school where 3 other little girl mice make fun of this name. From then on, Chrysanthemum experiences sadness and self-doubt that all kids experience at times. In the end, the music teacher tells the 3 mean girl mice that she also has a long name. The 3 girls like the music teacher, so they immediately think Chrysanthemum isn't such a bad name and try to adopt names of flowers for ... My kids and I absolutely love this book! She said that school was not for her. One day, Chrysanthemum went to music class. The music teacher said her name was Delphinium Twinkle. She was named after a flower too! Mrs. Twinkle was expecting a baby...guess what she decided to name her baby? Children will love the story of Chrysanthemum. This is such a great book! Henkes does a great job at showing kids why it is ok to be different - in this case have a long name. Chrysanthemum's parents are very supportative of her and in the end she "blossoms"! A special teacher loves her name and then all the girls then want to be named after a flower. Great illustations, great text, it doesn't talk down to kids at all. Our family loves reading this book.This is such a great book!
