A friend of mine gave Me a bunch of Old Lp's and CD's. THIS Title was among them. A couple Weeks later He asked how I liked 'em, and I said: "GREAT- but the "Stax 50" was AWESOME!". He says:"OH, I didn't mean to give You THAT one- give it BACK". OOPS- sorry I said THAT...I was CRUSHED. So I always wanted to REPLACE it- THIS one "Popped up" on eBay- and I bought it. This CD Set is JUST SPECTACULAR ! AND the recording is BEYOND reproach. These "Old Cats" REALLY Knew what they were doing! The Writing is GREAT, the Performances are GREAT, and the Sound Quality is AMAZING !!! We used to listen to the "SHAFT" Soundtrack in the Car (on "EIGHT TRACK"). To Hear it on Our "High- End" Stereo (Levinson/Cello/Klipschorn) is FANTASTIC, and on Our "Ten Channel Dolby Atmos" Surround -Sound Home Theater System is a REVELATION. Holy Cow! There are so many great tunes on this set. This is seriously an amazing compilation nicely put together with a booklet inside. Which I must add is a good read too. My personal favorite tracks are: Carla Thomas - Gee Whiz, I've been loving you too long - Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes - Walk On By & of course the Shaft Theme! and they even threw in Son Of Shaft by the Bar-Kays!! I could go on all day about how amazing these songs are. If you are familiar with these artists then you already know how great this set is. If your looking for a place to start and learn about this generation of artists, this would be perfect for you too.
A this two CD collection is a great review of Staxx highlights. The quality of this music helps to bring Staxx out of the shadows created by Sun and Motown. Best enjoyed when reading the book, Respect Yourself by Robert Gordon.
