This is not for everyone, but it is still an excellent film worth watching!
I finally got one of my favorite movies on DVD & was not disappointed! The White Buffalo is a great action packed tale of the old west! It's star studded with Charles Bronson, Jack Warden, Clint Walker, John Carradine, Kim Novak, Slim Pickens, Stuart Whitman, Ed Lauter & Will Sampson. Maybe not household names now, but back in 1977 when this film was made, this was a HUGE star cast! The story centers on Wild Bill Hickok (Bronson) in his later life haunted by a dream of a white buffalo, that terrifies him so badly he awakens, firing his pistols at the phantom! Hickok has plenty of enemies & runs afoul of a few during his journey to find the white buffalo. His fear gains him more enemies as well! He teams up with old friend Warden & Chief Crazy Horse (Sampson) who hunts the buffalo because ... I finally got one of my favorite movies on DVD & was not disappointed! The White Buffalo is a great action packed tale of the old west! It's star studded with Charles Bronson, Jack Warden, Clint Walker, John Carradine, Kim Novak, Slim Pickens, Stuart Whitman, Ed Lauter & Will Sampson. Maybe not household names now, but back in 1977 when this film was made, this was a HUGE star cast! Plus, it all takes place in the bitter cold of winter. The story is solid with a good ending & an epilogue that befits this dark drama that gives us photos of Hickok & Crazy Horse with their dates of birth & their dates of Murder! The issues people might have with this film are the attitudes of whites toward 'Indians!', syphilis (that is slowly killing Hickok), prostitutes, the slaughtering of buffalo & the language, which is not particularly salty, but is period hard to understand & does not shy away from telling it like it is! This film is also not a fan of George Custer & particularly brother Tom! If you like a good old fashion western, this is a movie you will enjoy!
