The good: Product inside box is new and functions as it should. The not so good: Said it was in NJ, but came from CA. Double boxing would have been nice considering bought as brand new; product box a bit beat up from 3000 mile trip. Also, a simple "Hey, thanks for your purchase" "Hope it arrived ok" type of communication would have been appreciated seeing how it was a $500 plus transaction after tax. BTW, I would have paid extra for double boxing.

    Great for high gain

    I think the tone profile of the Black Winter as shown on Seymour Duncan's website is pretty accurate. I replaced a 'Designed by EMG' Ibanez bridge pickup with this, and I could clearly notice higher treble and mids, not to mention an overall higher output. I just rolled down the tone knob and adjusted the amp EQ for more bass to achieve a heavy tone that I quite like. I didn' try it for mid-gain (hard rock) yet, but I tried it clean (for a very short period) and it was pretty good. Don't let the branding style and the name make you think of this as a black-metal-only pickup. It's pretty much a SD Distortion with a different EQ profile. And I like it.

    Ehhhh

    Just too much of everything for ME. I have the Nazgul/Sentient and like that set. Maybe it was the guitar this was in, maybe I never EQ'd it right, but I tried for weeks and sold em. FWIW, I play thru an EVH 5153, never go hotter than channel 2 and just didnt like the sounds I was getting. The neck was good enough, but off they went. I really dont play Black Metal, so I cant say they were terrible, but I read they were very versatile. Not for me, 1st Duncan set I didnt like

    Great pickups

    Awesome pickups, lots of attack, but can be dialed back for softer styles. The strings and cable are a great bonus.

    Works great if you actually play in a metal style. I think a lot of folks who pick this up do not. Not as nice as the Seymour slug but getting close and way cheaper.
