    Worth the reading time

    It's a novel and mystery in one book. Strong characterizations add to the story line. The time is mid 20th century in the midwest during summer vacation. There are a series of deaths in a small town. The narrator is a preacher's son and he takes us through the whole summer from the point of view of a 13 year old boy. This is worthwhile reading.

    Gripping and real, a must read!

    An excellent read along the lines of Stand By Me and To Kill a Mockingbird. I couldn't put it down. Krueger paints such a clear picture of the town and the people living in it that I can see it--so real and the characters well developed and I felt like iI could have known these people and the horrible events of the summer and the minister that tried to help the people through all of the things that can happen even while struggling to understand why God allows the events that unfold in his own life.

    On one level its a good mystery that keeps you guessing until the end. On another level it is about growing up in a complex world. Finally its about family trying to stay together after a painful loss. Highly recommended...
