My First Ham Radio, A Great Investment
For my first ham radio, I wanted to start with a radio where everything is self contained and easy to deal with. Being new to amateur radio it makes learning easier for me. I especially like the wide band receiver that allows me to listen to not only the amateur radio bands but a whole lot more. I have just begun to explore all of the features and there are a lot of them. Excellent HT for analog and Packet and Internet linking if you're not ready for the digital dive yet.
Very small but full of features over four bands. Option for GPS as well. One piece of advice though is you can no longer expect to program these by hand easily, no matter what brand you buy, Plan on getting a cable and software from either Yaesu or a 3rd party (e. g. RTSystems).

One of the best hand helds you can buy.
Quad band radio, am receiver, fm transceiver, BT capable, gps capable, accurate, waterproof, packetting enabled. 10 mhz to 990 mhz. I bought mine 3 years ago and have never been disappointed. You can buy software to program it easier.
