Anritsu MT8802 for Amateur Radio use
First off, dealing with Asset-Resellers was very good. I was travelling and needed them to hold shipment until I was going to be back home, which they arranged for. I have a few other somewhat older service monitors, IFR, HP, etc. My main one is a HP8935/E6380 but it is limited in one aspect-spectrum analyzer bandwidth. The Anritsu has variable bandwidth. While not as user friendly as the HP I have caught on to the menu system and other limitations, such as no AM mode, no speaker and no SSB mode. But really, for working on VHF/UHF FM gear who cares? And this unit covers 300 khz to 3 GHz!. I can see my WiFi stuff in the house, etc. Signal generator wise you can go down to less than -135 dbm, up to +7 dbm, and the other limit is on power measurement, it is limited to 10 Watts. So for portables it is fine, anything larger in power would require a 100 watt 10 db attenuator. Again, no big deal, really. Just don't dump your 110 Watt 450 MCS2000 into it. The screen is bright, color selections are changeable and it will write a bmp file to a 3" floppy of the screen. That's nice. I'm told it has a tracking generator but have found no reference to that in the manual, not have I seen that on the menu. So if you need a go-to service monitor this one works fine. HP8935's sell for about $500 more. But be sure the one you buy has the spectrum analyzer option if you need that -W2DB
