I was surprised, I didn't hold much hope for the grass Coring Aerator Device to work, but it performed very well ! It took some time and labor, but for a small grass yard, it works great ! Bit of advice, wear a shoe that does not have a flexible sole, like a sneaker. Best to wear a work boot as all the foot pressing of the device might hurt your foot's arch if you use sneakers. I would recommend this very highly ! Carry a soft face dead blow hammer to knock the metal tubes when it does become plugged. They will drop right out. I used this device after a big rain and it worked great. Will have to try it when the ground is more dry to see how it preforms in those conditions.

With high clay content in my soil, I really need to aerate once or twice a year. Medium yard, and so my goal in buying this tool was ti avoid renting a machine yearly or buying a tow behind and also use it for hot/compacted spots. After trying it probably a dozen times in various conditions, I am disappointed. Constant jamming in various conditions unless the ground is absolutely saturated. I was able to use it successfully after an overnight rain storm. Even then, I had to use a file to sharpen the tubes and carry a screwdriver for the occasional plugged tube. Normal watering is not sufficient to use this tool, the ground must be soaked! It worked better on parts of my yard with less clay or where we had laid sod. Comparing to commercial aerators, I believe the tubes are smaller and don't have the open side, which may contribute to the tool plugging up. In general, I love the idea of this tool but it fell short of my expectations. Read full review

Sturdy as needed. Somewhat smaller holes make it very easy to puncture turf, etc. but soil does need to be a bit moist, so best to do after a good rain. A great product, and easily preferable to renting a machine to aerate if you don't mind a little manual (but enjoyable) labor.

Beyond happy with this tool! I'm always skeptical buying tools I cannot see in person, but I can assure you that this is very sturdy and does a great job. As long as your lawn is moist, the prongs will dig in easily and the soil plugs will pop right out. I tested watering my lawn (which is on a slope), before and after making holes in my lawn and the difference was significant. Before the holes, water just ran off my lawn. After making holes, there was literally zero run off of water. My lawn was very compacted and areas of grass were dying off. I think this process is really going to help deliver water to my lawn and help it survive and thrive.
