About this product

Product Information

This volatile memoir from Doug Crandell weaves a darkly comic and thoroughly heartbreaking coming-of-age tale set in 1990 as the author is about to graduate from college. With very few job prospects and in need of tuition money, he joins his father working at a ceiling tile factory in tiny Lagro, Indiana. As his father moves headlong into a midlife crisis—complete with a bad toupee and a penchant for drinking on the job—Crandell's mother struggles with depression and talks in the third person as she manages a fast-food joint, where she compels her crew to dress in homemade costumes. As the author struggles to finish his degree, he also fights the urge to stay where he is and end up a lifer" like his father. But before long, the monotonous work takes its toll on Crandell, making him realize just how similar he and his dad are. From their joint substance abuse to their feelings about the coworkers they watch buried from asbestosis, the Crandell men struggle to find a way to communicate. This powerful book explores themes of modern manhood, hope, and the power of labor to bring together workers, families, and even macho men.

  • One man's Trash, REALLY IS another man's treasure!

I know you all have heard the phrase "one man's trash is another man's treasure". For most people its just a phrase, but if you bought this book, its a real motto to live by. For me it all started with a motherboard pulled from a computer i found on the side of the road. I was planning on keeping it and building a computer, then i realized i did not have the time to dink around with it. I thought to myself, hey people buy some pretty strange stuff on Ebay, so why don't i try and sell it on there. 3 Hours after i posted it on, Someone put a bid on it for $10.00. It really made me excited, here i am thinking wow, someone put a bid on an item and i even wrote that it was untested. That's when this book comes in to play. Teaching you your ways in and out of Ebay, helping you find your way ...

  • My grandfather was a millionaire and didnt know it

My grandfather died 2 years before ebay was a glint in Pierre Omidars eyes, and when he died his house was filled with what the neighbors and friends and family called junk. Now years later after they called the dumpster and had everything thrown away I still make searches for things I know he had in his garage and cringe with a gut wrenching sigh as I see that he was easily a millionaire a couple times over and didnt know it. The ebay phenomenon has shown that another mans junk is truly another mans treasure. Buy this book and adopt my philosophy. "Don't throw it out till you check it out on ebay" from junky radios, to old playing cards there might just be a fortune in your attic and this book will show you how to collect that fortune.
