i was looking for a canon camera able to run with batteries and came upon this one. – it came in a canon carrying pouch from japan ! – came with batteries, but of course i replaced them with my own double AA. – date/time menu kept popping up every time i turned the camera on even when settings were configured to my liking. upon research, i found out there’s a tiny CR1220 battery in there that needed to be replaced as well. replaced it and the menu no longer popped up ! good as new. – i’m still a bit confused on trying out the different settings, but with time i’ll come to understand. quality is very nice, and you’re able to edit a lot within the settings itself. – haven’t tried hooking it up to my pc, but i doubt there’ll be any issues since the product has worked perfectly fine so far. Dear Bonzon, From the outset I’d like to say that I’m far from a professional photographer. I’ve had my refurbished Cannon PowerShot SX 160 IS 16mp for about 3 weeks now and had a chance to put it through some paces. I’m more than pleased, especially with the camera’s macro capability; the resulting images are crisp and very sharp even without the use of a tripod! Once I installed a 16mb memory card the ability to store a considerable number of shots even at high res is much more than expected. The recovery time after each shot is quite good. The large LCD screen greatly aids with composition. I’ve yet to do much outdoor work (landscapes) but so far my images hold up quite well the colors are natural as are the colors at middle range. In conclusion, the Cannon PowerShot SX 160 is a good camera for someone like me who is just breaking ground into the world of digital cameras. In future I plan to upgrade to a DSLR, because of your company’s hassle free and rapid service I’ve placed you on the top of my list.Read full review
It is nice and light - it is easy to use - to change into different modes - but the auto focus button is way to sensitive.- get several out focus pics before I get one in focus - it takes no pressure at all - bad!. I previously had a SX160IS - its auto focus was much better...and theSX420 is supposed to be 20 mp vs the 16 mp of the SX160 - but I see no difference - in fact for what I like to do - take pics of wildflowers and insects the longer lens is a hindrance and it does not take better distant wildlife photos than the SX160 - the SX 420 are almost always slightly out of focus and the lens cover is a pain...the SX160 automatically closes. The SX 160 is a better camera in my opinion.. I should never have ordered the SX420. .

Instead of depending on specialized rechargeable batteries, I was looking for a camera that would run on regular AA's. The SX160 IS is the best AA powered camera that I could find. I use "Energizer Ultimate Lithium" cells and they last pretty long. Images and video are both very high quality. To successfully take video at the highest resolution, use a reasonably fast SD card. I am using a 32GB card; I don't know if it supports any larger sizes. The only big limitation for video is that you can't connect an external microphone. The audio is recorded from the camera's internal microphones only. (The camera also has a small speaker to let you hear audio on playback.) The pop up flash works fine. If you don't pop it up, then flash is not used -- that's simple! There is a trick to getting sharp pictures. You must partially depress the shutter release and hold it for a second or two to make the camera auto focus. If you do, the pictures will be quite good. If you just snap the shutter, the pictures can be out of focus. The camera has many different modes and settings, most of which you will not need. There is a way to do manual focus, but it is hard to find. You will have to read the manual, that's why they call it manual focus. :-) This camera has no networking and no GPS. Once you have taken your pictures, you can use a mini USB cable to connect it to any computer, and folders of pictures or videos will be available as if it was a big thumb drive. Or, you can remove the SD card and just plug in to your computer. With a certain kind of HDMI cable, you can play video directly to a TV set. The video has excellent resolution. The self timer works fine. There is no viewfinder, and you might have to shade the display with your hand to see it in bright sunlight.Read full review
