Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the all-out onslaught that is Blooddrunk. Children of Bodom have done it again with another great CD! Sceptics BURN! A taste of Follow the Reaper in some songs, while others showcase the bands' newly acquired talents. "Banned from Heaven" is my new ringtone on my phone because it is such a masterfully crafted spear of Guitar solo riffs, heavy drums, and the best in melodic keyboards from Janne (that's Ya-nay, a guy's name, not Jane). Alexi Laiho the lead guitarist/vocalist has really poured more of the molten mercury on this Heavy Metal achievement, with "Smile Pretty For the Devil", his personal favorite of this album. Can't get enough!! Still pales in comparison to the previous album in my opinion though... Kinda tough to beat "Trashed, Lost, and Strungout", "Living Dead Beat", and "In Your Face". None the less I highly recommend anyone with a taste for something fast, deep, and unrelenting in the screams from beyond the grave... !!!!!!Read full review
This CD blew my mind away and I still can't get enough of it! Not as melodic - and a lot more "death metal" than the previous Children of Bodom albums this is for anyone that is a serious fan of melodic death metal. There is less concentration on melodic compositions that Children of Bodom is generally known for and it seems as though they tried to waste no time and add no extra frills to the music that really just speaks for itself. There is also a lot less concentration on the "happy" keyboard that they usually show-case. The first song Hellhounds on my Trail is extremely hard hitting but catchy at the same time. For some this album may take some time to get used to, especially if you are more used to Children of Bodom's earlier releases. There are a few songs that are a bit more melodic like Banned from Heaven and you may also like the Ghost Riders in the Sky cover (which came with the version I bought, covers vary depending on where you are purchasing it). The song Blooddrunk is a keyboard-led song which is also very heavy. All in all, this is a lot heavier than all other Children of Bodom albums but I still liked it although there are a lot of upset CoB fans out there that prefer their earlier, less thrashy and more melodic composition based music. If you're a fan of REAL death metal this is a kick-ass album!Read full review
