To be honest, I'm a newcomer to Black Metal, and I was familiar with it on Metal Maniacs magazine, and what little was shown on VH1 (100 Most Metal Moments). I was familiar with Darkthrone, because Phil Anselmo (of Pantera fame) wore the "Transilvanian Hunger" T-shirt, then, I started listening to samples of the album. Then last year, I've finally bought it and I loved every minute of it! So I bought "A Blaze In The Northern Sky" just recently, and I loved it just as I liked "Transilvanian Hunger".

Overall,I enjoy this cd,there are some "weak"cuts however. The 'in the shadow of the horns'track is awesome and the whole cd does possess the 'darkness'we crave,so on that merit alone I must rate this a 4 star effort by DARK THRONE....The one negative comment I would make is,too much frenzy, not enough 'wicked'riffing!
This is it.... If you've never listened to black metal, this is a very good start. Both sound and fellings are pure evil... Back when it came out it opened for many bands who wanted to make extreme music, it paved the way for a revolution in the metal-music scene.... This is a sure thing to buy.... You won't be disappointed...
