Walmart Price: $12.99. First of all I have to say I like the cover and pics in the insert. The CD itself is actually pretty cool in design and kind of symbolizes the content of the CD. The design is (half tree rings/jet engine) which symbolizes (soft and slow/hard and fast). This CD not only has many songs that follow this pattern the whole CD goes from fast and hard to soft and slow at the end. I thought it was a pretty good symbolization. The Pretender - What can you say about the pretender? The pretender was the first single released on this CD. This is probably the best song on the CD. Starting off with a quiet guitar intro and Grohl singing quietly (slow and soft) it quickly turns into a heart pounding beat (fast and hard) with Grohl starting to sing like he means it. This is all followed by one of the best hooks in recent song memory and Grohl now screaming about you being the Pretender and how he will never surrender. This song rivals Foo classics such as Monkey Wrench and Everlong. Very good. A+ Let it Die - Once again a very soft and melodic guitar intro with Grohl singing at a normal pitch. Once the song hits 1m 40sec the tempo starts picking up and getting louder until eventually at 2m 35sec it goes back to very quiet guitar then an explosion of guitars and drums that might be one of the best transitions in a song I've heard. The song ends with Grohl once again screaming about letting something die. Good Song A- Erase/Replace - This song is just kick ass from the beginning to the end. Sort of out of control guitar in the beginning followed by and awesome drum riff which leads you in the verse and Grohl and screaming. And then I don't want to talk about it, oh no don't talk about it. All I have to say is you have to listen to this part in the song cause it's awesome. Very Good A+ Long Road to Ruin - This is just a classic Foo song. Good lyrics, nice beat, but nothing too special and the chorus gets repeated(echoes) a lot. Maybe I just need to listen to it more. This one will probably be the next single cause it seems kind of tailored for radio. OK B- Come Alive - Awesome melody. Pretty good lyrics too. This song really got into my head and found myself singing it to myself. Reminds me of New Way Home or February Stars from the colour and the shape. They do repeat come alive a lot in this song and it kinds of gets annoying, but overall the lyrics and melody make up for it along with the spot on drums and timing. Pretty Good B Stranger Things Have Happened - Great guitar, great lyrics. More of an acoustic song than a rock song. Great guitar solo and great chord changes. Definately going to learn how to play this song. Good B Cheer Up Boys - I'm undecided about this song. Stop stop stop stop stop = annoying annoying annoying. OK C- Summer's End - I like this song. It's slow and kind of cheesy, but I really like the chorus. Moonshine in your hair is an awesome lyric. Haha! Good B+ Ballad of Beaconsfield Miners - Nice acoustic guitar! B Statues - Weird song. One of the first Foo songs I can think of with Piano in it. Dark lyrics. Nice piano. Weird Foo song. OK C But Honestly - Starts off slow, builds up, and has good lyrics throughout and crisp chord changes. But Honestly Plain C Home - Once again that piano. Weird. Wonderful lyrics though. Good B Overall I like the CD and would recommend it to anyone. Good lyrics and good music gives this album a lot of character. Final Score 3.59 StarRead full review
Man, you think after all these years they would put out a crappy cd! But it hasn't happen so far. Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace is an amazing album with a bit of everything on it. "The Pretender" is by far one of the best rock songs on the radio in a long time. The lead guitar and drums are so perfect on this song. My favorite would have to be "Stranger things have happened" which is a amazing acoustic guitar duet with unbelieveable lyrics. This cd is classic Foo at their finest. With a blend of both hard and soft songs a like, theres a little of something for every foo fighter fan.
This Album is Amazing. The Foos just don't ever stop their awesome Music. This album never gets old. It got Entertainment Weekly's Pick for best Album. Also the Foo Fighters received five Grammy nominations for this Album. Foo Fighters' new cd is great the songs change tempo from fast and furious like "The Pretender" But what the Foo fighters did was great such as in the song Let It Die it goes from easy going to Dave Grohl almost screaming in the end but thats what makes this band great and if your a fan of the Foo Fighters you should definetly look into this new cd.
