The movie itself is pretty good, the 3D version however is why I bought this Blu-ray DVD. I have a Sony 52" Bravia XBR9 w/240hz,Sony Blu-ray S560, & Sony 7.1 surround sound amp all HDMI cables and WOW the 3D is pretty good, not as good as when seen at the movie theater but a lot better than I expected. Be sure to view this at night and with no lights on for the best affect. Oh yea crank it up for the best movie theater like experience, from the comfort of your home. The 3D glasses that come with the DVD work the best, bought more expensive acrylic glasses and they don't work ass well.
Over the past 30 years, I've seen on film, many attempts to capture the nuance of this story. Even though this version leaves many things unanswered, the cleanness, originality, and plot flow, all makes up to its critics. Bringing the past, present, and future all together made a good deal of sense. The writers of this movie made great strides trying to respect the author, Jules Verne and his contributions to man-kind through numerous inventions and discoveries. More ingenious to the story, was the living man-eating plants, the huge piranha fish in the underworld sea, and the levitating rocks. The tension was not to much but yet just enough to allow you to care for the characters. Frasier was excellent in this movie. A must see and one to own. I'll give this a 5/5 for coolness and action. Fun story and great 3D effects. Adaptation of Verne story is well done. Lots of humor. Can be enjoyed by the whole family. Much more enjoyable than AVATAR which is pretentious, ridiculous, and ant-American. James Cameron, a Canadian, comes here, makes zillions of dollars off American know-how and industry, then proceeds to bash this country. What a hypocrite and loser! This obnoxious and ponderously dull movie steals plot elements from DANCES WITH WOLVES and POCAHANTAS, and suggests that primitive people are much more civilized than Western Civilization. It presents a distorted view of history, and parents should avoid having their children see it. Stick with films like JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH instead.
If this was just 2D, I would probably give it 3 stars. But if you are a fan of 3D movies, this one works well in 3D, maybe even worth 5 Stars. I would recommend buying some "real" anaglyph glasses as they are much more comfortable. Although Brendan Frasier is not the greatest actor around, he's always a joy to watch in movies. Lots of action and adventure and, overall, this is just a fun movie to watch!
