In Chris Martin's own words this debut album is, "us plagiarising Radio Head." It has a soul of its own though that permeates good song writing, arrangement, singing even, it translates. his album's mellow sometimes murky undertones enhance the highlights of songs like Shiver, Yellow, and Everything's Not Lost. Somewhere in between these are the simple, timeless songwriters-songs that make so much from minimilized guitas and vocals. Listen for the hidden track at the end, a favorite on the album. This one CD saw Coldplay rise from obscurity to sharing a bill with U2 where Bono reworked lines from Yellow into the reprise of his own.
Bought it for my sister. Know she will love it! Thanks again

Being a 6'4" 239 pound giant in my late 20's I'll say that Coldplay is moving up my list of favorite artists...at the speed of sound! ;) Supposedly this is another "nothing beats the original" type of situation as I've been told repeatedly that this is their best album, and I really can't argue with that. "Yellow" is legendary and "Trouble" is a real gem too. The latter almost has some metal in it, or at least aggro-rock with a slow, but pronounced tempo that's heavy on percussion and geetar amid the John Tesh-like pinkly piano. If you ever thought about buying this one, I have one question, and one question only: what are you waiting for?!?
Best album ever in history of music and Alt-rock music.
