As a composer, Melford explains, The Other Side of Air finds her strengthening and extending many of the concepts heard on that winning debut. "As we were playing the first set of music, I started thinking, 'What else would I like to be able to express with these guys?'" she recalls. Her answer yielded 10 tracks boasting continual curiosity as well as plenty of visceral impact. Melford has long culled inspiration from her expansive enthusiasm for culture-from Rumi and Camus to architecture and Eastern spirituality-and The Other Side of Air is informed in part by visual art.
