The splitter is compact, easy to use and requires no gas/electricity. That said, if you had a cord of wood to split, you would be there a long time. I have a wood fired pizza oven and use this to split 'already split' logs into smaller pieces. Works great. It can definitely tackle 'whole' logs also. Just be aware of the size limitations.

This is my second one, the first one we purchased three years ago from Lowe's, which we are still using, this splitter does a very good job splitting wood. It is good quality, one person can use it, but it is better and faster if two people use it, one to load/unload split wood and one to operate the handles/release knob. I have found that you can't pump both handles all the way thru splitting the wood piece, but use both handles until resistance if felt, then hold the left handle still and just pump the right handle by it's self to start the split, then use both handles for faster/finish the split. I am right handed and if you are left handed then you would hold right handle still and pump with left handle as described above. My nine year old granddaughter is a big help for me, I pump the handles and she loads the wood, we can split a piece about every 30 seconds or less. It is also a big help to have different size/thickness boards/small blocks to take up the space between piston and piece of wood to be split, especially for shorter pieces.Read full review

at 60, i bought a cord and it's the first time splitting wood. i have no fear of hurting myself using this tool. much safer than using an axe. easy to use, little effort to move the bars. but if you do many logs it still seems like work. i did bang my head on the bars but that's my issue.

Seems like it will do the job I need it for. Strongly made and compact. It's a little heavy for moving around outside as I'm small and older and they dont specify the type of hydraulic fluid to use but other than those two things I have no complaints at this time. Ive only used it a few weeks.

Packaged great, worked great. It helped to watch a good youtube on how to "bleed" the hydraulic jack. That is very important for your ability to exact as much pressure as the device allows. We split year old oak pretty well. My son had an easier time than this old 63 year old, but I too was able to split that oak! I recommend the insurance. Seems it comes packaged well bled and ready with all the parts. It is easier to get around the yard with an old dolly too. And stored straight up it only takes about a square foot of space. Well engineered! Read all instructions well.
