Bought it to be interchangeable with another we already own. This camera seems to be reliable, although its capabilities to off-load photos using the USB connection has failed. The camera's failure, not the USB cable or program, has been confirmed in testing using the second camera, 3 USB cables, and such. Still, the camera is great; easy to use. It does have a seemingly long period between pressing the shutter release button and the photo being taken/recorded. That's not a problem in most instances, but it can lead to missed photos of birds, animals, and other moving objects.
This is a great camera for it's time but still good for todays picture needs. 3.3MP which is big enough for snapshots and webshots. Zeiss lens, which you find only on higher priced digital cameras being offered now. 3x Optical zoom. Great macro for its time. Storage on memory stick. You can also shoot small avi's. Sony just makes a great camera.
I love this camera. I already have one which I bought several years ago. I purchased one for a friend as a gift a few years ago. Now we have decided to get another one for our family so everyone will have their own. The fact that it was originally made several years ago and still does an excellent job is testimony to the superior design and quality. It takes very high quality photos and in addition we have taken many short videos with ours as well. They are good enough to edit and burn onto discs. We even gave copies to each one of the children at VBS one year complete with fancy labels and all. For anyone who wants a nice camera that is easy to use and that produces very good pictures and short videos I would choose this one for sure. We have a video cam and a top of the line SLR. Still we feel there is always a place for a small, simple camera as well.Read full review
If your looking for a perfect eBay camera ~ this is IT! This was our second cybershot, we used a P1 for a few years. The best feature is the Carl Zeiss lens ~ it is always crystal clear from very close macro through fully extended zoom shots. The ONLY things I don't like is the shutter lag, and the fact that the movie mode is only 15 seconds long. Some of the better features are the very long battery life, memory sticks are low cost, and easy to store. And it's very rugged, we have dropped it many times with no damage to the body or lens. Its perfect for ebay work, as it shoots in poor light well, and gets very close on the macro setting. The built in flash is amost to strong for table work, but with a red eye setting it's great for family shots. This was pricy new at around 700.00, but now with every one looking for 7 plus megapixels you can get them on here on ebay for under 200.00 with all the extras. We highly recommend the sony cybershot line ~ but this model with the larger lens is the best we have used. We still use this camera for all our auctions and love it.Read full review
Six years in the digital world is an epoch-so why did I just purchase a DSC-S70? This Sony camera outperforms cameras with twice the CCD resolution! Introduced in 2000 at an $800 price point, the camera has terrific features such as diopter adjustment on the viewfinder(for clear viewing without glasses), excellent video capability, and a metal body which may survive nuclear blasts. The Carl Zeiss lens system of this camera is stunning and provides a highly-resolved image to the 3.3 megapixel CCD. The Sony DSC-S70 takes crisper, more refined images in half the file size than my other Sony camera (newly purchased), a six megapixel DSC-W30 which has a much smaller lens. This difference is seen in comparing close-ups and and color clarity. A close friend has had a DSC-S70 for over six years, and after seeing the images, I purchased a minty one for $75.00! It does have some quirky characteristics; it is rather boxy and large with an odd habit of thinking for a half-second before taking photographs. Parents will miss many shots with active children. Overall, the DCS-S70 is highly recommended for taking a huge amount of amazing images on a small Memory Stick (also compatible with the newer Memory Stick Duo). At this writing, I would choose this camera over most under $350.00 cameras on the market.Read full review
