It's a classic prize winning authored children's book. It's a "must have" for any good classroom library. Robert McCloskey has written Make Way for Ducklings, Lentil, One Morning in Maine, A Time of Wonder..only to name a few books. these are EXCELLENT pieces of literature. The illustrations are interesting even when only done in black/white. I do wish this had been a hard back, however I knew it was not when I purchased it and the quality of this soft cover edition is excellent.
It is interesting that this version of Blueberries for Sal is from 1976. The reason I wanted this book is because I remember as a little girl,in the early 1960's, taking this book out of the library at school. I love the illustrations and also the story line about a child who wanders around picking blueberries and bumps into a mother bear, at the same time the baby bear wanders around finding blueberries and bumps into Sals mother. It makes me recall the many wonderful blueberry picking adventures my mother and siblings and I went on in the Armenia mountains of PA. I wanted to purchase the book to give to my grandchildren because I thought they might enjoy the book as much as I did as a child. It is the same story as when I was a child and I enjoyed reading it again and also reading it to my grandchildren. I am not sure they were as thrilled as I was to have this book in my hands again. I loved this book when I was about 8 and was reading all the authors books that the library had. I still love it and was happy to find it to share with my grandchildren while we ate bowls of blueberries.

"Blueberries for Sal" is a classic book that tells a gentle and engaging story. Funny noise words such as Kuplink, kuplank and kuplunk add to the attraction of this great read-aloud book. A little girl named Sal and a little bear have a bit of an adventure when the little bear follows little Sal's mother and little Sal follows the little bear's mother on a blueberries-picking trip. Preschoolers, kindergarteners and beginning readers will enjoy this Caldecott honor book by Robert McCloskey. "Blueberries for Sal" is one of the best picture books for children.
I ordered this for my granddaughter. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it to her via FaceTime. She enjoyed it too! Very cute story about Sal and her mom and a mama bear and her cub on opposite sides of a mountain picking blueberries.
