My old βgo toβ flashlight was a Mag Lite ML300L 3-cell D that also has momentary and strobe functions. This Streamlight ProTac HL 5-X is smaller and significantly brighter. I like that you have the option of using the provided rechargeable 18650 batteries or four CR123A batteries. It does feel more substantial in the hand, almost heavy, and you certainly would not want to get hit with the head of the ProTac which is milled aluminum! I have not used it with the CR123A batteries, but the specs say the rechargeable 18650 batteries provide a significantly brighter beam. The Mag Lite might be easier to carry on a belt due to the handle length when using a ring, so consider that if it matters, but Iβd feel comfortable using a ring with the ProTac. See pics. The difference in brightness between these two flashlights is night and day. The Pro Tac has a significantly brighter beam and maintains that brightness with a much wider field of view than the Mag Lite is capable of doing. You might be thinking, βthat is an apple versus orange comparison,β and you are right. However, I believe the ProTac is definitely worth 2 to 3 times the cost of the Mag Lite.Read full review

This is probably the strongest 1 chip light that can be called (standard). It is easy to illuminate a hole sports / tennis hall from one corner. There is just so much light that it astonishes every time it is set max, just a overwhelming incredible amount of light from a flashlight. Of course, it comes with "ten-tap" user interface, so it's so easy to customize it to what you need right now, at any time. it gets pretty easy and straightforward, pretty quickly. Just, 10 taps of the switch and choose, really it is that simple. Absolutely max light with 18650 batteries, pretty wild. it's not that bad with cr123's either, yes it takes both nice. On medium it is actually much brighter than our standard issue "surefire" wannabee they should be "1000Lm" flashlights but naaa not really. And our Maglites *GGG* no comparison at all just none. You just have to think a little, about where to use the max setting, DO NOT!!! use max setting inside the car, small room, or In a mall at night, there are a lot of reflective glass surfaces everywhere, which means you will be dazzled all the time. It even stops people coming at you at night, they just stop. :-) Good we like that :-) !! Especially in the car !! do NOT use the max setting, or puff, there goes your night vision, NO night vision left at all, and a heck of a lot of little blue dots everywhere you look, just soooo many small blue dots all over baaad. There is ABSOLUTELY no night vision left at all, it's no fun at all. it took some time to see anything again, NO FUN AT ALL:-( I love it. For night patrol work, and K9 patrol work, i do both, and it is perfekt, no really it is, I promise really :-) I definitely, never going to switch back again, for sure not a chance. A really nice flashlight, i love it. AND. You can get it off me, when you twist it out of my cold dead hand. :-)Read full review

Well built and very bright. Excellent for use around the property. Would recommend the use of 3500 MaH USB rechargable batteries to extend the run time and the tail cap switch from the HL4 for an optional way of activation. Would I buy another? Absolutely!

I have (2) Surefire 1000 lumen each and this streamlight is brighter. In fact its beyond blinding. The throw isnt quite as far but the overall brightness is something to behold. Add to that the rechargeable batteries and dual usage capabilities w/ CR-123 batteries Lastly the $50. cheaper price, and you got a winner, hands down

This flashlight is the brightest handheld compact flashlight Iβve ever owned... it makes limo tint transparent... it makes a dark street, alley or room look like itβs the middle of the day with the sun out...
