The collection is really not too bad if one can forgive source material that is "good" at best. It's basically made up of 16mm prints of public domain material with DVD tracks on both sides of the discs. Most titles are available individually at discount stores for a buck or two for each. If you score this box set at a reasonible price, and you like the titles offered, it's a valuable bargain. Especially good are the Buster Keaton titles! There are some rare Fatty Arbuckle, Stan Laurel (solo) and Keystone Kop shorts as well. The music selected to play with the silent shorts is unprogrammed and most times does not match the action on the screen (a waltz playing against a chase scene, etc). Still overall it's a pretty good collection and the old Monogram "Dead End Kids" features are always a treat. Don't be mislead by the box set's title. It's 50 Movies - not 50 Feature Length Movies. Very much worth having if you can get it cheaper than the suggested retail $29.95 price.Read full review
I bought these DVDs for my parents, who love George Burns and Gracie Allen, Jack Benny, and of course Lucy. Most of the shows are in black and white from 50's and 60's TV, and quite fun! Interestingly, the cigarette ads for Lucky Strike and live advertisements for Carnation evaporated milk are made part of the shows and some are quite funny. This would be a great nostalgia gift for your 50-plus parents or grandparents. Mine loved them, and I became a new fan of George and Gracie. Enjoy! :)
Great shows and movies

This item had some good movies in it. Some of them were very generically made but many others were made of great quality. Overall, a very good film set.
