I've used these retracting hoses for several years. I had to learn a trick to keeping them from exploding, though. That trick is to open the valve on the nozzle before you turn the water on. Heat builds up in the hose when the nozzle is closed and that causes the hose to explode when you turn the water on. When I realized and corrected what I was doing wrong I found that the hoses lasted for years rather months. I really like mine and I have a couple of different lengths.

When hose is discharged / drained of water it shrinks about 1/2 (to 20 / 25 feet) the size. It does NOT coil up. However, it IS easy to pick up and wrap it up like an extension cord. However, as well as i treat everything I own I do not perceive this to last long.
