Michelle Pfeiffer established herself as an adept actress with this colorful comedy from director Jonathan Demme (SOMETHING WILD, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS). The wife of Mafia hitman Frank "Cucumber" De Marco (Alec Baldwin), the irrepressibly brassy Angela (Pfeiffer) finds herself unhappy with their shady lifestyle, and wants out. When Frank is murdered by mob boss Tony "The Tiger" Russo (Dean Stockwell), she uses the opportunity to move to New York, get a job and go straight. But as soon as she thinks she's out, Tony wants her as his next mistress. Tony's jealous wife (Mercedes Ruehl) threatens to kill her, and a master-of-disguise FBI agent (Mathew Modine) follows her every move, and then falls in love with her. Through all the colorful insanity, Demme keeps the action on target, and the emphasis on quirky characters. A game supporting cast includes: Joann Cusack, Oliver Platt, Tracey Walter, and Jamaican singer Sister Carol. Chris Isaak, Todd Solondz, "Grampa" Al Lewis, and David Johansen are some of the many cameos. Pricelessly gaudy costume designs and a spontaneous sense of fun help make this one of the classic comedies of the 1980's.

This movie was entertaining. Michelle did a good job in this film and I think she really brought an important element to this film that made it seem realistic. There is explicit content. One of the supporting actresses (Nancy Travis) is completely nude in this film, which I felt was inappropriate, but it is rated R, so I guess some level of explicit content is to be expected, though I felt that was a little too much. There is also a lot of violence, which I felt could have been toned down a little. Overall, entertaining, but I didn't like all of the content.This movie was entertaining. Great Mafia Send-up
Never would win an Academy, but it's a good cult classic. Michelle Pfieffer is great as the wife of Alec Baldwin "the Cucumber" who is sleeping with girlfriend (Nancy Travis) of Mob Boss Dean Stockwell "Tony the Tiger." Baldwin gets wiped out and now it's time for Pfieffer's character to leave Mafia family... if they'll let her! Jilarity ensues when the Feds get involved. Hokey little movie, but worth wasting a little bit of time on for laughs.Never would win an Academy, but it's a good cult classic. Michelle Pfieffer is great as the wife of Alec Baldwin "the Cucumber" who is sleeping with girlfriend (Nancy Travis) of Mob Boss Dean Stockwell "Tony the Tiger." Baldwin gets wiped out and now it's time for Pfieffer's character to leave Mafia family... if they'll let her! Jilarity ensues when the Feds get involved.
