Watches are fine examples of precision engineering, yet it's odd that so many think you have to spend a fortune to get real value for money. If this Invicta were the Rolex it mirrors, it would cost £14,250 but for around £65 or less you get a near identical item. And being quartz powered, it actually keeps more accurate time than any automatic, and replacing the battery after 2 or 3 years will cost around £20. Compare that with the many, many hundreds of pounds a recommended regular service will cost for your Swiss masterpiece, and who gets the bargain? The case is well enough made. The bracelet uses press fit pins as hinges between links, folded end links and a pressed sheet clasp of the lowest grade I've yet seen. The crystal is a simple hardened material much prone to scuffs, grazes and scratches unless worn only where little except shirt sleeves are likely to contact it. It's certainly softer than that found in other cheap watches, some of which offer sapphire crystal, which is one of the hardest materials available. But the main drawback with these quartz Invictas is the trashy battery driven calibres fitted by invicta. These are more liable to physical faults in that the gear train driving the hands has massive backlash. And some stop freezing the movement when time setting is attempted. I've seen that in two of these cheap ... The case is well enough made. I've seen that in two of these cheap divers. Their battery life isn't great either, compared to other watches I have. This could be the factory fitting low grade batteries to shave costs, that's only a suggestion. As to accuracy once it's been set, this watch and its many stablemates is no better or worse than other cheap quartz watches. They all gain slightly, which is better than losing as correction of the latter is more complex by far. Among cheap quartz watches I might buy in future, none will be Invictas. Indeed if it's not outwith the review remit, I'd suggest readers take a look at very cheap watches sold under the "Infantry" marque, which are less than half the average price of watches like the review model. It too has a basic movement, probably from China. But its reliability has knocked my battery invictas out of the park. They're Field watches rather than divers. But if you must have an invicta dive watch, I'd suggest you get an automatic. They tend to be maybe 40% more expensive, but it's worth it. Those come fitted with an nh35 Seiko calibre, far superior to the low grade junk in the quartz models. They need more user attention and can never match the accuracy of even cheap quartz watches but they have a charm that the battery models can never claim. I have five of these autos all told and just might get another but I'll never again buy any Invicta quartz model.
