This thing is ready to go right out of the box, although I recommend charging the battery to full first. I did, and it only took about 10 minutes to full charge. I ran it around the yard at first, it's not real fast, so if you're looking for speed this isn't for you. But it does have power, I tried it out on a steep rocky slope, this slope is about a 45 degree angle, it had no problem going up it and over the small and medium sized rocks. As far as durability, on the way down I flipped it, it rolled all the way (20ft) down the slope hitting rocks and came to a rest at the bottom, on it's wheels. It didn't break, everything is still in one piece and it still functions. The body is a thin vacuum formed plastic shell, and it appears to be durable. It is heavier in the front end for better climbing ability. The front motor seems to be larger and more powerful than the rear motor. It has four wheel, independent, suspension and a good range of shock travel per wheel. I ran it for about 20 minutes and the battery was still going strong, I haven't ran the battery out yet but have heard it will last from 25-30 minutes. I am really happy with this one. It's an awesome little truck that's easy to control and takes a beating. My 3 year old son has no problem operating the Rock Crawler 3XL, as its a perfect speed for beginners. Battery charges in 30 to 40 minutes and lasts roughly the same time (still testing mine). Anyway I highly recommend it and this particular vendor as well.
