There are several reviews of these radios on YouTube, and I have to agree with each reviewers critique of the radios. They are very budget friendly, and use frequencies that do not require a license to operate on. The MURS frequencies are the 5 old business band frequencies, aka the yellow dot, the green dot, the orange dot etc. After cell phone technology came into it's glory, most of the businesses stopped using these frequencies, and the FCC reclassified them for personal/business use. These are not the big box store radios you can buy in the FRS frequency ranges and at this point, I have not seen them for sale in any large department stores sporting goods or electronic departments. The radios do require programming touch-ups to get the most out of them, but the Retevis website has the software to download and is very easy to use. The radios come preset from the factory for low power output, about .5-1 watt, but they can be set to high power, 2 watts for better range. There are other settings for side band privacy codes, and battery savings on and off. The specific frequencies are not changeable. My wife and I work at Walmart, and Walmart was one of the businesses that kept the frequency they were assigned to, so they are grandfathered into channel 4 and 5. Using these radios allows us to easily communicate with our fellow employees at a very reasonable price. The Motorola units the store uses cost upwards of $150.00+ to purchase, so at under $20.00 each, these are a fantastic bargain. They can also be used for personal communications, my wife and I talk on channel 3 when we go to lunch or after work so we know where each other are. Overall, the Retevis RT27V MURS radios get a huge thumbs up for value, and they come highly recommended by me. Get a set of them if you want a value communications system.Read full review
