The plastic top guide is not attached flush with the metal base, which allows the paper to slip under it. I think with some fussing I can fix/adjust that. It would have been nice if it was designed so that was never an issue, such as having a dropped-down bevel for that top guide to rest in. Also, this cutter is rather flimsy and cheap, but it works okay. I own a smaller cutter made in the USA in the '50s that my family has used a lot, and it still works great with no effort.
