I was looking for a distortion pedal that would metal up my guitar sound with out losing my guitars tone. Often times the pedal sound is artificial and you feel like your playing the pedal, not the guitar. Not this one. The sound is beautifully tuneful, accentuating my guitars tone, not replacing it. The range of sound goes from mild crunchy to metal mayhem if you want it to. I don't care for the bright switch on, too much treble for my tastes(still prefer old school rock with good mids). If you want to be heard this will make tone piercingly out front. When your not playing it is dead quiet. Very impressive effect pedal. Like all visual sound products, it is quality build, components, and sound. They're service department is second to none. It's an awesome company. Anyway, it is the best distortion pedal I've had the pleasure of owning, and I find it addictive to use.Read full review
Pros when it works it's awesome. Cons works 1/2 the time and now doesn't work at all. Used at gig and died slowly, sound was going in and out and now out. That's what I get for buying a used pedal.

I know of a few artists who use this distortion pedal, and have always loved the sound it put out. I have been looking around, and testing numerous different distortion pedals and couldn't find any that put out that certain sound i was looking for. I finely found out that it was the Son of Hyde by Visual sound!..I come across one on ebay for a reasonable price that i could afford. It was the best purchase I ever made! I love the pedal! and many people have noticed the change in the sound. It is much brighter, with not too much low end like most pedals, easy to operate, and mixes well the the rest of the pedals on my board. I highly recommend the Son of Hyde weather you are wanting to play rock, hard rock or contemporary. Not meant though for country or blues (not that i play that stile). I use a fender stratacaster, with Seymour duncan pickups, and it sounds excellent!Read full review
Pretty dang sweet. If, it had the bass boost option of its big brother Id give it a five out of five. The built in noise gate is useful and doesnt rob anything. There is nice crunch, it is focused and mean, or you can back it off for more traditional rock tones. Its not noisy, and the notes are not clouded by it.The buffers are tops and it acts nice with other pedals.Just wish it had that bass boost. Anyway it is a welcome addition here at MetalRecordingServices.com
Great tones in this box. I run it into a Fender Super Champ. Clean channel. It drives the tubes well. All the 80s hair, 90s grunge and modern metal are easily dialed in as well as some lighter bluesy tones. I have tried many many and more expensive dirt boxes but this one is a winner. I run into a Visual Sound route 66 V3 first and then kick this on to go over the top and its a great combo. For the price its a no brainer. Very crisp without sounding like a hive of buzzing bees. String definition is good and built solid. Buy one.
