The 4040 specs are widely available. This 5-20mhz FG is very stable and the 30mhz int/ext frequency counter adds to its standalone usability and accuracy. The top row of switches allow the selection of frequency band and type of signal, the middle rows are for course and fine frequency followed by other buttons or knobs for utility functions such as ext/int, am/fm, burst, etc, while the lower row covers the sweep function. Several output jacks are provided for main out, ttl/cmos out, mod in, etc. The overall performance has been excellent although I do wish the generator offered a variable marker and went to 30mz like the counter. The overall quality is superb and the unit is considered to be a "must have" on the test bench. pmo
