A great fan service in a not so great DVD.
When I was a kid my favorite Saturday morning cartoon show was the Ninja Turtles, when I was in my 20’s my favorite show to make sure to record before I went to work on Saturday morning was the 4kids Ninja Turtles. The two couldn’t be more different in tone has the original 80’s series was more satirical then serious, while the 4kids one took itself very serious and got very dark at times (the fact that the turtles never really won a direct confrontation with the shredder without someone intervening points to this argument). During the turtles 25th anniversary and with the turtles about to be shipped to Nickelodeon, 4kids and Mirage got together for one last hurrah in turtles forever which celebrates both the 80’s and 4kids versions of the show. The story is basically this during a ... The story is basically this during a fight in the 1980’s turtle’s universe Donatello accidentally set off an explosion in the technodromes portal room. This transfers the 80’s into the 4kids world in which they get captured by Hun and then saved by their 4kids counterparts. After some wheeling and dealing and the 4kids having to learn the rules of fighting the 80’s shredder (the 4kids think because there in danger while the 80’s just charge in because there Shredder is a joke) they discover a bigger problem. The 80’s shredder has found out where Otrom Shredder has been banished and brought him back, now with the Otrom Shredder in control of the techdrome the two turtle team will have to face off against a villain who schemes to destroy the entire multiverse. This is definitely a fan service movie, if you never were a fan of the turtles this movie is not made for you. But if your fan of the 80’s, or the 4kids, or better yet both (I can appreciate both cartoons for what I offer the humor of the 80’s and the series plots of the 4kids) you will enjoy this. The only thing I can complain about is the voices of the 80’s turtles, they couldn’t get the same actors do to the voices and the voices come off has superb (Shredder and Raph) to doable (Leonardo) to please stop talking (Donatello). Has for comedy there are a lot of in jokes basically at the expense of the 80’s cartoon show (all though the 4kids get poked fun of for being a bit to serious sometimes), from Dontatellos interdimensonal portal stick, to Raph’s breaking the forth wall, or just the whole point that there 80’s counterparts never take anything seriously they get poked fun of. The 80’s shredder also has his problems when his counterpart takes over and no longer puts up with the fact that he’s a blithering idiot. The whole concept of the humor can come up with a line where 4kids turtles try to explain the danger of their shredder compare to the 80’s shredder and there lines go he’s dangerous, he’s lethal, he’s competent. The story is pretty well written and all though like a lot of fan service it does have a bit of ham but stays from getting gummed up into it throughout. The only time it gets too hammy is when they start talking about the turtle verse and the source dimension. However this can be forgiven because it does two things, first it gives a quick cameo of the turtles in all there forms, and it introduces us to the source dimension which is none other than Eastman and Lairds original comic. One last thing and this isn’t a complaint but something I wished they had done and that was had more time in the 80’s world. They go there for a brief time (like about 5 minutes of the movie) but there isn’t much to it. We ge

I like the 2003 version of TMNT, but in this movie, they collaborate with the 1984 version, which is entertaining (not precisely how they were, but a bit satirical). They also meet the comic book version. I like that you get to see three very different versions of them. Plus, it ties up the loose ends of the 2003 series, as it ends it.
