Works as advertised. I was told there might be a magnetic interference with hotel room keys/credit card magnetic strips. I haven't yet had an issue with it. I have a hard rubber case which has just enough friction to keep it from sliding on its back on most surfaces. This is the one thing that I lose with the magnet mounted on it. Otherwise it's a great product.

This product is used in combination with a couple of different Nite-ize complementary receiver base-type products, that each, individually function in a complementary way with it. Think the "eyeball" and the "eye ball socket". This product is the socket! It is made of quality materials. It is manufactured using quality manufacturing techniques and the two together, result in a piece of well made and quality merchandise. However, it's proper function is only assured and is dependent on whether the item(s) (phone and case), to which it is mounted, is/are light enough to allow it to work correctly. It uses sound and functional principles to work (strong magnetics, strong adhesives, quality rubber and chrome plated steel, that together, create just enough friction, to steadily hold a phone in its case; a small, light weight phone and it's case, in almost any position in which you place it. However, when properly affixed and then mounted, it's magnet against it's rubber and chrome receiver (this Steelie product), doesn't exert too much friction, such that it restricts any further movement, adjustment, or removal, from the necessary steel base, upon which it (this product) must also be mounted. The item will operate effectively and hold a phone and case, where you have positioned it, so long as the phone and case it's used on, weighs a lot less than (say, 50% less than) an iPhone 6s Plus-sized phone, that is carried in an equally sized, Mophie-type battery case. In short, that phone and case combination, results in a complete lack of stability for the mounted phone. The phone/case will freely pivot around its base as you drive, make turns, and stop and start. Plugging the phone into a cable that is attached to the vehicle's cigarette lighter socket, used to charge the phone, will not help to solve the problem or stabilize the phone's movement. In order for a charging cable to do that, such a cable would also need to be mounted along most of its length near the mounted phone, right up almost to within a very close distance to where the cable would be plugged into the phone. That condition or similar type of configuration, would of course, make use of the cable (plugging it into or unplugging it from the phone) very difficult and thus impractical. Bottom line? Only use this product, with one of its complementary base products, on VERY LIGHT WEIGHT phones and carry case combinations.Read full review

I had made a mistake and bought the ball from amazon thinking that it was a kit that came with the socket. So I got the socket from a reliable source here on ebay. When I got the socket I was so excited and installed it all the very same night in the car. The next day after work I went to the gas station and the pump did not read my credit card. So I then went to another station and it did the same. So annoyed and confused I then remembered I put the phone in the backpack in the same pocket as my wallet. Never thought it would demagnetize it. Guess I didn't do my homework well enough. Didn't see or notice any reviews about the damage it's capable of. Just yesterday I got another credit card.

The perfect solution is sometimes the simplest. This mounting system works and looks better than anything I ever used. Just follow directions when mounting with the little 3M pads, and do not get in a hurry. Let it sit for a day so that the pad bonds tightly. It is real space age, and not just some sticky glue. Always mount the little magnet ring on the middle of the back of your device so that the weight is balanced over the ball. You will be amazed at just how well how the steelie works. I now have 2 in each car. Removal if you ever change cars is easy using a little alcohol and a piece of dental floss. No residue left behind. Bottom line---------I highly recommend the Steelie system!
