If you enjoy high energy dancing, colorful special effects, roller skating, Olivia Newton John and The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), then you will love the motion picture XANADU. This was sone of the most artistically inspiring movies that I have ever seen. Actually while it was still running in theaters during the summer of 1980, I was so captivated by it that I saw it 8 times. No other movie attracted me to see it 8 times in the theater other then James Cameron's TITANIC relesed in 1996. When I saw Xanadu at age 18, I was inspired to seek out and study Greek and Roman mythology. My favorite being the 9 Muses that are portrayed in the movie Xanadu. This is a light hearted romance about a down and out artist who literally runs into the muse KERA, (Terpsichore) Played by the beautiful Olivia Newton John. Along with her sister muses and some help form Gene Kelly, Sonny soon finds himself inspired to oepn a state of the art dance hall partnered with Gene Kelly. Sonny also finds himself facinated and falling in love with Kera. But she too feels for Sonny but also knows that it is forbidden for a goddess to fall in love with a mortal. Muses are just meant to inspire. The story is interesteng and the music and artistic style are very enjoyable. My favorite scenes in the movie are the opening where the muses come to life dancing out of an abandoned courtyar mural. it is a beautiful dance sequence and the musue look so beautiful. My other favoirite scene is in the danc hall Xanadu where the muses put on a mixed dance number with lights and costume changes and an explosive ending. This was a great movie at the time. Recieved mixed reviews but if you are an artist, you will enjoy this film. ThanksRead full review
The plot is silly but some great music, dancing and skating. Plus, ELO did the music, and its Olivia floating around beautifully.

The DVD and bonus soundtrack are great. I love the music, and remember seeing the movie, and previously had the cassette tape, since lost. The quality is superb, and this classic will probably grow in popularity in the future. It was Gene Kelly's last film, and the dance sequence with Olivia Newton John, looking incredibly beautiful in a WWII uniform (it made her legs look so long and slender) is something noone could forget. I am thoroughly delighted.
