Bushido Blade is the most authentic ancient Japanese weapons fighter you can buy - still (Aug 2006). The realism is second to none, the weapons have weight in a way they never have in any other game, as do the fighters. Not only that, but your sword becomes even heavier if you are hit on the arm and left to fight one-handed. Any damage inflicted affects the performance of the fighter exactly as it would. No health-bar rubbish here! Some simply captivating special moves are waiting to be discovered. Usuegi's Hasso Kamae to Waki Kamae Kata followed by four swings is awesome. The settings feel authentic, too. My only criticisms are that the extra videos are hopelessly hard to unlock, since you must defeat everyone without a scratch and no saves available. The difference between difficulty settings appears to be unnoticeable, and the movements of the characters when they are running is strange-looking. Motion capture was used for the intros but not for the actual game - given this the movement is amazing, and the detail is great - bandanas ripple in the wind and bamboo crashes to the ground if you chop at your enemy and accidentally hit a tree. Likewise, you may find you cannot swing with your back too close to a wall, because you cannot draw the blade back. There is also an even rarer game - Bushido Blade 2 (only released in US) which does not look as good. The three stances are not the same. BB's three stances, like the rest of the game, are totally authentic. The story here is weird, as expected from a Japanese production, and perhaps a little rushed in places. The characters have a lot of nice areas to fight in, yet the first four fights are all in the same rather bare spot. Very odd. If you like Tenchu this will be for you, and the two-player mode is hour-burning fun. the first-person mode is actually quite good too! Music and menus are as slick as a Kurosawa storyboard. If you find this game for under £10, anywhere, just buy it!Read full review
Back in the day this was a great game. The only reason I decided to write a review about it is because eBay's description is wrong. This is not Armored core. The controls are difficult to handle at first and the game is not easy. The main reason it was so good is because the game play is very realistic most of the times you die with only one hit and the enemies do too. Sometimes they hit you in just one arm and you can continue figthing with the other arm. The duel mode where you can play with a friend is very exiting, you have to become a real pro to actually kill your opponent. The grapichs are not the best but the game is pretty fun.
This game is one of the classics. It has so many different styles of play, you're guaranteed to fine a combination of fighter and weapon that works. For instance, I used to play as the little guy holding the big sledgehammer. Sounds bad, but it works. If you like realism in your fighting, get this. If you enjoy games that combine action and skill, get this game. If you like to watch your opponent's health meter go down... go play Soul Calibur 4 instead.
I bought this game exclusively to relive a time when I was a teenager and this game was as cool as it got. I loved, and still love the fact that fights can be won in a single blow or it can take 10 minutes (I'm not that good). I can spent hours just playing the practice mode. If you dislike anything about this game, you're a fool with no taste.
I owned this game previously. I missed the simple fighting format and easy attack and defend system. I would reccomend it for retro gamers or fathers who want to pass on a different era to there older sons. Other than that it is nothing to write home about.
