About this product

Product Information

Released in an era of rhythm-game renaissance, Battle of the Bands for Nintendo's Wii might be considered THQ's answer to Activision's Guitar Hero and EA's Rock Band games for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. For a winning performance, the player attempts to hit the right notes as they scroll towards the front of the screen in familiar fashion, but Battle of the Bands does not make use of additional music instrument accessories, instead calling on players to make the right gestures at the right time with the Wii Remote.

Both single- and multiplayer modes are available in the game, but in either case, there is head-to-head competition between rival bands. Players choose to take the role of one of 11 fictional bands in the repressed city of New Cadenza, where master musician (and the game's top enemy boss character) Mr. Hong rules with his Violent Orchestra. Each playable band favors a different musical style, and in the heat of competition, players can change the playback of current song to match their band's style. As players compete by gesturing to the beat, scenes of musical instrument combat, with bullet-spewing violins and flamethrower guitars, play out in the background.

Musical styles featured in the game include rock, Latin, country, and hip-hop. The 30 available tracks run the gamut from "Brick House" by the Commodores and Cypress Hill's "Insane in the Brain" to the Soggy Bottom Boys' "Man of Constant Sorrow" and "Photograph" by Def Leppard, and each song can be played in any of the musical styles, depending on the preferred style of the band that is ahead in the current competition.

  • Battle Of The Bands Is Different Than GH or RB, More Kid Friendly.

Having paid under $10 for this title, I wasn't expecting much, and I put off trying it out with my boy. He played it for 4 hours straight the first time around. This is a win in my book! For one thing, you have to shake and move the Wii remote in different directions (which can be a bit tiring - but fun!), rather than just hitting buttons, and the graphics, storyline and gameplay are really creative and fun. I am a new Wii player, so maybe more experienced gamers won't enjoy it as much as I do, but I don't know why anyone would be disappointed with this game for such a small price! The coolest thing is the music. You and your opponent get to choose a band in either a rock, hip/hop, country or latin genre, and as you "battle," the recognizable song that's playing will switch between the ...

  • Like guitar hero but........

Like guitar hero but........way better. You really can get in-to this game. When I play, I have to stand up and dance with the motions.....and guess what....I don't dance. I hate dancing but this game makes me get off my butt and dance......and I love it!!!!! I've been a gamer for 25 years. Trust me, You have to own this one, I promise. :)

  • 10 yr old grandson very exceited to get it

Well, I haven't actually used the game. Bought it for the grandkids, specifically for my ten yr old grandson. He loves the whatever game it is with the guitar. I thought he would go crazy for this one. Looked like a lot of fun. Don't know if he has played it yet. But, he was very excited to get it.

  • brand new inexpensive video game for wii console

I bought this game because our family enjoys the guitar hero/rock band series games. I was a little bit disappointed that it does not require the instruments, as the guitar hero does. But using the wii remotes turned out to be quite fun. I am very pleased with my purchase.
