An awesome, classic 90s rail-shooter, the pre-rendered graphics have somewhat aged, but they retain a very cool aesthetic, as do the live-action actors and alien designs. Very fun in co-op, and a bizarrely addicting soundtrack, despite being essentially the same song repeatedly. It's nice to proceed past the first mission without spending four dollars in quarters, too.

I'll be the first to admit that this game gave me the willies when I was younger. It's not the sort of game for little kids. That said, since going back to it now that I have a total penchant for arcade shooters, this game stands the test of time rather well. Given the current generation of gaming, the graphics are very dated. The FMV soldiers seem to be more of a nuisance than there to kill aliens. You gotta have something to avoid, I suppose. If I want to have to worry about firing into melee, however, I'd choose the House of the Dead series over Area51. The 5 levels tend to go by rather fast, but playing 3 or 4 rounds in succession is not unheard of. Having a decent gun controller is a must. I used a Nuby Virtual Gun for my gaming. I kind of wish you could save your high scores and settings to a memory card, but the game does not support that. Overall, a fantastic game for the retro gamer, most other people will likely pass it by.Read full review
I bought the game to try out an older off-brand light gun I came across. The game and the gun worked well together. The game itself is verbatum to the arcade version we all played back in the day. Gameplay with the old light gun was fine and fun too. You have to play it with the older gun, so don't pick it up if all you have is a GunCon2. I didn't sink a lot of money into the experience, but if the price is right for you it was a positive play experience.
This game is an exact copy of the the arcade version as far as the levels and game content are concerned. However, my only disappointment was that you are unable to use a Guncon controller for the total game play experience.
I've liked this game for many years, Finally bought it. The graphics are a bit cheesy looking, and it was hard locating a gun for this game. But I love the shooting action. One thing I don't like about this game is not being able to save it where I die.
