When the movie Dick Tracy came out, my friends and I were obsessed with it. We would run around like tools acting like our favorite character. The first Dick Tracy video game I played was on the NES. It is a good game, but has kind of a steep learning curve. I didn’t play the Genesis Dick Tracy game until a few years later. Compared to the NES version, it is more action oriented. Leaving out the obvious advantages of superior graphics and sound the Genesis version has, I would say it is the superior Dick Tracy game. The Dick Tracy world is filled with bold colors. The graphics don’t disappoint. Compared to other games of the era, Dick Tracy is above average graphically. The levels and characters are detailed nicely and are very colorful. The music is adequate. For some reason, it seemed muted. I would be playing one game and when I put Dick Tracy in, it didn’t sound as loud as the other game despite the volume being unaltered. Not a big gripe, but more anal retentive observance. The sounds add well to the experience. The gunshots, especially the Tommy gun, are fun to hear along with the sounds of glass shattering as to shoot it. Dick Tracy’s game play is your basic standard fare, but most games of the era were due to technical limitations and such. You navigate to the right side and you start out punching as your main means of offense. At certain points you will unholster your pistol to shoot enemies that are on the same plane as you and unleash a hail of lead with your Tommy gun to enemies in the background. Some levels you will be hanging off the side of a speeding vehicle while shooting at goons who are in hot pursuit. It is not the most cerebral gaming convention, but it is simple fun, which is what games were back before the turn of the century. Don’t let the simple game play lure you into a false sense that you will breeze through this game. Dick Tracy is not an easy game to get through and can be quite unforgiving. Some levels will make short work of you and require multiple play throughs to get it right. Again, this is how many games were back then. You couldn’t save at any spot and had to start at the beginning if you shut the game off. Sure there were some games with passwords, but if you even got one character wrong in the 50 characters, you were plum out of luck. I do admit that I have become soft due to being spoiled by the conveniences of today’s games. It is quite humbling to go back and play these older games and have my butt handed to me. Dick Tracy is a fine example of an early Genesis game. It is also a good use of a licensed character and not some cheap tie in. If you don’t mind some old school challenge, Dick Tracy will test your mettle. If you aren’t into the old style of video games, Dick Tracy may not an enjoyable experience. So, if you are a classic game collector or love the Sega Genesis, I would highly recommend adding Dick Tracy to your catalog.Read full review
the game over all is fun to play. except for one small draw back. the machine gun that dick uses for mowing down enemies across the street is woefully inaccurate. you have to just keep firing, and adjust the pitch until you hit the target. other than that. this game is great.

This is a great game. It’s a simple side scroller, with a lot of level variety. I had this game when I was a kid, so the nostalgia factor plays a part, but this was and is one of my favorite Genesis titles. ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

I love the game! I had it back in '93 but made the mistake of trading for a game that was definitely inferior (LAST BATTLE) I really like the gameplay and I love the graphics, which is why I purchased it again so I could relive all of the fun I had playing it as a kid. This game is really lots of fun and I would recommend it for anyone who loves good action games. Hope this satifes your curiosity and I hope you enjoy feedback. Roderick
