I can't believe I'm giving five stars to a Sharknado movie. Most of the films in the series strike me as funny but kind of dumb, somewhat entertaining but hardly examples of great filmmaking. Then there's SHARKNADO TWO, a disaster movie spoof that gets everything right. It does for shark movies what AIRPLANE did for airport-disaster movies. It even has Robert Hays, the pilot in AIRPLANE, playing the pilot of a plane that's attacked by sharks. Astute viewers will recognize nods to classics, such as the TWILIGHT ZONE episode where a man sees a creature on the wing of an airplane. The opening credits are clever, and the New York City setting really works. This is a rare sequel that surpasses the original. As for the concept of a Sharknado...OK, maybe it's silly. It's still more believable than King Kong or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Read full review
