After a year of Thomas the Tank Engine, my grandson discovered Shark week on Animal Planet, and the battle for his attention began. This book could not have been discovered at a more appropriate moment. There are a number of good quality used copies available on ebay, and I would suggest that route over retail price. It's a very enjoyable read, but be advised, you'll mostly likely have to read it until your little guy discovers Legos.
