I’m not a hunter ~ just a range guy. I wanted a Leupold scope because I like the brand And they are made in America. The features in the scope that I really liked were first of all the illuminated fire dot in the center. It’s a little green dot right in the center of the crosshairs which you can turn on and off. Stick this in the center of your target and your shot will be dead center. The scope also has hashmarks up and down for elevation and right and left crosswind. So the combination of the green dot and the hashmarks is very simple and all I need and wanted. I Mounted this on a savage.17HMR rifle. I’m shooting groups the size of a quarter at 150 yards on a windless day. The magnification is very nice at that distance And the image is very bright. I’m not shooting elk at 500 yards across the canyon; I’m just shooting paper targets at the range. This rifle and scope set up is perfect for that and I recommend this scope highly.Read full review

I compared several other scopes including several other Leupold models. The closest I found to this scope was the Leupold VXR line which was a little more expensive than this. The green illumination with 5 brightness settings was one of the final selling points, amongst the obvious things such as the Leupold reputation, lifetime guarantee, and of course the quality of the optics. I have three other scopes but my clear favorite is the Mark AR 3-9 X 40 with the green illuminated firedot reticle. Through Leupold I purchased the BDC elevation turret that is matched with the caliber of bullet, weight of the bullet, average elevation and relative humidity to the area where I am hunting. Leupold claims to match my specific caliber I'm shooting to range out 600 yards and beyond, using the BDC match system. I'm up for the challenge... now I just have to find an area where I can shoot at that distance legally! Amazing scope! Well worth the money!Read full review
The only complaint I have is the TMR reticle is really thick- it completely covers a 1" target spot at 100 yards. 1/2 MOA thick would be better on a precision rifle. Other than that, it's good. The glass is supposed to be VX-2, I believe it because it's better than a VX-1 I have. The turrets clicks are crisp any track well. The firedot illumination is pretty cool. The dial has the range marked for a 55gr polymer tip but it's easy to ignore and use the mil markings underneath.

Excellent scope. The eye relief on the Leupold scopes is unbelieveable. One word of advice, however, is that this scope is rather long, so if you intend on mounting it on an AR-style rifle, you need to get some type of scope mount that allows for the proper eye relief. The mount I ended up with is "AR-PEPR QD SCOPE MOUNT W/ PICATINNY TOPS". It has worked very well for me.
lightweight in its class and a good pries for a scope with a mil-dot rad. I hate it that not very many people make a mil-dot in 3-9 anymore. mil-dot are awesome scopes for fast target acquisition at range. when you get you dope figuredout for the gun, and a 3-9-40 is hard to beat for a all around scope.
