What sets this model Schrade apart from the rest of the pack is its inclusion of a fire starter hidden inside, plus an emergency whistle cleverly built into the cap. You don't need to remove the cap, although the whistle is louder if you do. However, you need to unscrew the hidden pieces to assemble the fire starter, but it is no big deal once you give up trying to do so without success and THEN read the instructions. The fire starter cap unscrews 'clockwise', not normal 'lefty loosey'. It actually works, when you put serious pressure on the striker, and after you have removed the protective coating from the rod, scrape it off until all the 'black' is gone, leaving grey metal showing. All in all, one of the best tactical pens made. This replaces several other major names I've tried. Most have a snap friction fit to the top, Schrade is a screw on cap, whether open for writing or closed for pocket or 'tactical' use, so you don't lose the cap to an accident or negligence. Highly recommended. The only real negative is that it uses a different refill than most tactical pens, much smaller than the normal 'Parker' size.Read full review

Sensible Preper recommend this pen. It's one of my EDC items. It's no rolling writer but it more than makes up for that with the whistle and fire making capabilities.

Very good pen with a lot of add on items that will be good if anything bad happens.
