Though this compass was made in China, it's very well made and seems to be sturdy. Most of all, the compass itself works. Item as described and prompt shipping at an affordable price. Thanks!

    Nice for base model

This is my 1st lensatic style compass and it works smoothly and reliably. As a base model it lacks 2 important features (no luminosity or declination correction) but that is more of an inconvenience than necessity. It works well and is easy to read. There were no instructions included (youtube rocks).

    Works, but flawed

Not a bad compass considering it was only 12 bucks or so. But it has to be ABSOLUTELY level to function well, and it can be difficult to really "trust" a reading, particularly on the move. You will have to stop, hold the compass absolutely level, and take your reading. The sighting slot in the lens section isn't plumb either. No big deal, but kind of annoying. If I were Brunton, I'd improve it's functionality a bit and charge a few more bucks if necessary, this compass does not represent the usual Brunton quality very well.

  • It's good for what it is

Chinese-made, liquid filled, clone copy of the U.S. military issue lensatic compass. Mediocre repeatability with 3-5 degree deviation average. Card is slow to orient itself. Plastic, rotating bezel will likely not to hold up over time and repeated use. Rosette has both Milliradian (military) & degree (civilian) scales. Good for basic navigation. Just adequate for non-precision map work. Passed the freezer test. No needle (card) lock when the compass is closed. Has to be held level to get most accurate readings. This compass has phosphorescent, not Tritium, markings that require an outside light source to temporarily charge and use at night. Medium quality at an affordable price. If this compass is lost or damaged, you won't be out $$$. That said, after I accidentally damaged my primary ...

  • Good value, lightweight, with good features.

I am especially impressed as I have been searching for a compass graduated in both mils (milliradians) and degrees for awhile now, but most compasses with that feature have been ridiculously expensive. The Brunton 9077 compass is simple, reasonably solid and so far I have found it quite accurate. My only (very minor) complaint is that some of the components are made of plastic, but I think that that is a reasonable trade-off for the moderate price. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a simple, solid compass that can be used for angular direction-finding measurement using both mils and degrees.

  • Brunton Military Style Lensatic Compass

I use this compass to shoot azimuths and plot eight (8) and ten (10) digit grid coordinate on 1:25000 scale maps, and it works perfect. It is light weight and durable. An excellent value for the money and a dependable compass.
