About this product

Product Information

The most important aspect of this book is upon the contemporary generation of young Indians who have been aggressively searching for roots of their own in the structure of universal reality. They look to it for spiritual guidance, for sociological identity, for political insight, and the affirmation of the continuing substance of Indian tribal life.

    Black Elk Speaks

This amazing story as told by Black Elk and friends gives us a different perspective of the American Indians than what we perhaps have been used to hearing. But in ways it is similar to that of any mother and father who loves and cares for their children including during times of sickness. These people, far removed from any modern society, have a sense of good and bad and this book gives us a glimpse of where they get their wisdom. I know that there is more to this story than what has been told in this book mostly dedicated to the telling of Black Elk's vision since he was 9 years old and trying to make sense of it. But this book is worth the reading in order to understand what life as an American Indian was like.

    Way Too Used!

I knew i was getting a 'previously used' book but the shape this is in is pretty bad. The cover's been torn and heavily taped up. The front pages, as far as i know, there's underlining. And if that weren't enough it's highlighted too. I'm not sure what happened but all of the other used books i've purchased have been in very/near new shape! This book looks like a grade school childs text book!
