PreSonus Inspire 1394 Firewire Recording Interface
This is a great firewire recording interface. I have two units daisy chained together to record four tracks. It will give you professional results if you take the time to learn Cubase. Before purchasing this unit I strongly suggest that you check the specs of your computer. You can visit the Presonus web site to see if your computer has the proper Processor and RAM. Also, this unit will only work with certain VIA Chipsets on your firewire card. Your Firewire card can be changed very easy and should only cost $20. You can also find that info on the Presonus web site. The pre amps on this unit are great. Very clean. I purshased both units on eBay and they work very well. The unit is very well made. If you can find a Inspire GT, you will get Amplitube Software. It's great if you are a guitar ... This is a great firewire recording interface. Rock, Hard Rock, Punk, ...and I even multi tracked a few songs myself. (Ya the rest of the band got a little nervous!) So, buy it! It works Great....and if you need more inputs, you can always buy another one and conect them together. Then when you really expand, I suggest a Presonus FireStudio.

Smooth and easy--USB to Firewire the way to go!
A solid box, powers itself thru the firewire, and my Mac just handles it seamlessly. The traffic jam of USB connections for drives, printers, keyboards and all that, and the wide-open firewire spot came very reasonably. Recording guitar has improved dramatically--makes this rinky-dink guitar player sound good! And I don't, I just delete it, knowing the Inspire 1394 will flawlessly catch my best moments! Not tons of inputs, so if you are trying to record a mic and multiple instruments, not for you. You office/bed-room/studio guitarist, very stable and reliable unit. Very cool once I got it working!
This is a great interface. It comes with everything that you could need to get recording right away. I personally like using Garageband, which comes with Apple computers as part of iLife. The problem was that when I first plugged it in the light would blink between blue and red and then remain red, which meant, according to the directions, that it was not synced with my computer. It turns out that it has to do with a security feature on newer Apple computers' fire-wire ports, and is obscenely easy to remedy: all you have to do is plug the interface in, then restart your computer with it still plugged in. After that your computer should recognize it and it should work seamlessly. It interfaces nicely with Garageband as well.This is a great interface. The Inspire continues to hold its value and has excellent recording qualities through its FW connection. All the guys in the band I play with have one and we share files easily accross the web.
