What a unique masterpiece! It delivers all your classic feedback effects from whatever live album you fell in love with, but you DON'T need a gargantuan amp setup with your guitar held at an angle to achieve it! On a clean or distorted guitar you can still have the effect. In fact, it is a useful accompaniment, almost like a flute is playing alongside you an octave or 2 up if "momentary mode" is off. Kill the dry signal and you are the Pied Piper! Plus, the suboctave mode follows your lowest guitar note (even with chords) like a virtual bass player, albeit with a fractional delay that can sound rhythmic. There is an older BOSS pedal which slooooowly delivers "natural" feedback, but it has nothing on this one. It's like adding in an entirely new instrument!

Is it a tube amp, nope. But you wouldn’t be buying it if you had a tube amp that you could crank and get great feedback. I own a Boss 100 Katana head and run this pedal first in my pedal chain and then into the amp. You can dial in a simulated feedback that sounds pretty Fn cool. It’s not perfect but it’s $hit Ton of fun to use. Word of caution. It doesn’t always play well with the next pedal in your chain. So in use the onboard Boss distortion and it works great. The pedal MUST have 9v 250ma. So BUY a good 300ma DC adaptor and isolate it so is gives the Freqout all the loven it needs to cook up the sound.

It arrived very well packaged. I bought it "Gently Used" and it is what I'd call "Mint." The box and everything that would normally be included are there and like new. The pedal is a dream come true whether used in latched mode and set like you are playing with a cranked amp that wants to feed back if you let a note sustain or in momentary contact mode and set so that you can bring in feedback for accentuation with a touch of the toe. If you are "Old School", like me and miss the days of hitting a note or chord and having your amp hit you back, this pedal will have you smiling as you are getting acquainted with it. Once you've mastered fitting it into your style, it only get better!

I have previously tried the older Boss Feedbacker-Booster FB-2 pedal that was inconsistent in its results and had an unnatural dropout in the dry signal before the wet signal kicked in. This Digitech product does not have that lag/dropout issue and the fidelity of the feedback/"wet" signal is pretty natural sounding. The key to getting the effect to sound good, is spending enough time to dial in the dual concentric knob that controls both the Onset Time and Gain Amount.

This is a truly revolutionary pedal, it does something that has never been done before. There were several BOSS pedals, like DF-2, that tried to do something along the same lines, but never quite worked as good as this thing does. Freqout generates feedback which may sound just like your regular guitar howling at high gain, or you may get NEW sounds that doesn't sound like any other padal on a market. Yes, the NEW sounds!!! You can switch the original signal off and leave feedback only, and it also does feedback on clean (not distorted\overdriven) sound, which indeed sounds like something fresh. Another useful application is direct recording. These days you have all sorts of amplifier emulations and can record quietly in your living room with your headphones, however you will never have a sensation of a cranked amplifier feeding back. Guess what, now you can. Just put the Freqout first in a chain, turn it on and there you go, sounds like your amp is feeding back. In short, highly recommended box. And it looks good too. Kudos to Digitech for breaking new ground again!Read full review
