Finally!
I have owned many vintage snare drums over the years and as there were no retro fit heads until the last few years I would have to put a modern head on all of them. For some it didn't matter but for others like a 60s Slingerland I've since sold they never felt right. The head was hard to slip over the top and they always sounded boxy and therefore paled in sound to my modern snares. Made me think " Do all older snare drums sound this bad?" Last summer I found a 60s Gretsch at a garage sale for $20 and immediately set about trying to soup it up. I tried modern heads and once again it sounded boxy with little snare response. I then looked at online forums and discovered there were retro fit heads out there. I tried one brand and it was a slight improvement but still couldn't get the full ... Then I saw Remo made a version and gave it a try. Man. Talk about night and day. My drum sounds open and dynamic now with a full bodied tone. My old snare will never sound like a modern drum because it just isn't but now I feel I have the best sound possible with these Remo retro fit heads. If you're having the same issues getting a good snare tone out of an old snare I highly recommend these guys.
