I've had the smart scoop automatic cat box for about two weeks now.and so far has performed very well. Both cats took to it. With no problem. The only thing I think could be changed is add a setting for time it takes to scoop. Sometimes 15 mins is to long. 10 mins would be a sufficient wait time. I've seen complaints of being to noisy the short time that it operates isn't worthy of a complaint.

Sorry I changed from LitterMaid. I did so because the unit advertised being much quieter. It is the only good feature. Assembly and dismantle for cleaning is difficult. I need to get my husband to come help each time. The unit worked fairly well the first 6 months but then the motor became too weak to lift the clumps and the rake would repeat the attempt up to 20 times with no success. I am woke up each night 2-3 times with the repeated attempts. At this point I am constantly scooping litter. May as well have a non-self cleaning unit as that is what this has become and it certainly wasn't cheap.

My only problem with this box is when the cat finishes and pushes the litter to cover it and it scoops it doesn't always pick up what's in the box. I'm not sure if I'm not using it properly and maybe I need to put more litter into it but don't want to make it too heavy for the scooper. if someone has better info I would love to hear it.

It seems tobe a good product. I like that the receptical opens over the cat box when the litter is being dumped so if any falls out it is backintothecat box. It's relatively quiet. It doesnt have expensive plastic recepticals to buy . They sell bags or you can use any small garbage bag. I haven't had it very long. But so far I am happy with the product

Just some background. With my former cat, I had used and loved the littermaid for 8 years. However when we decided to add our new kitten housemate I decided to buy this smartscoop unit based on reviews and comparisons I found online. I have to say this has been an improvement. We've had it for 2 months now and it has performed flawlessly. Here are some of the things that I liked better about this unit than the littermaid. This one comes apart for cleaning. In the littermaid the cleaning bar was attached so it could not be taken off and cleaned and it did tend to get feces stuck on it so it needed cleaning. This one has the removeable grate that can be easily taken off and cleaned and put back in. On the littermaid it would bog down if your cat tended to make big piles so it would reverse and sometimes not complete the combing through the litter to remove the clumps. This one has not bogged down on me once even with a deeper litter load than the littermaid. The littermaid required proprietary plastic receptacles for the litter to be dumped into. This on uses standard shopping bags so no extra expenses. Overall, I've loved this one and will buy another one when our kitten gets big enough to go downstairs and play.Read full review
