I'm a veteran school custodian - 29 years experience - and I've had one of these at work for the past 20 years. Even back then, when I started in the school I'm working at now, that Hoover Portapower vacuum was used and it still works great today. The only time in 20 years I ever replaced the cloth bag was when a teacher grabbed it and used it like a wet-vac, vacuuming out a small dirty defrosted freezer, and it ruined the cloth bag. I decided to get one for home to use here and there around the house, but most of all it's ideal to vacuum out our two cars, mine and my wife's. The suction on these vacuums is outstanding! Mine at work doesn't have all the attachments anymore and I'd forgotten what they came with. It comes with 5 attachments: 3 for the floor, 1 for dusting and 1 crevice tool. It also comes with 2 wand extensions and a shoulder strap...which I never use. The cord on it is super-long (much longer than mine at work, so they must've made improvements over the last 20 years), a big plus! This doesn't come cheap, though. Mine was $125, including shipping. A lot of money for a portable vacuum cleaner, but it's comforting knowing I got the best.Read full review
I had a Hoover Portapower years ago that I used for everything, including cleanup for a huge office move (everyone in the office kept using my sweeper). During this office move, someone used it to sweep something wet. It was never quite the same after that but still I loved its portability and lightweight canister to move around the house cleaning everything from carpet to hardwood floors to blinds to cobwebs in the corners. Finally, I decided to look for a new one as a replacement. The newer model is even better! The cord is longer (and stronger). This one comes with a carrying strap (works great!) and a snap fastener for the cord. If this one lasts as long as the other one, I'll never need to replace it...especially since I won't be sweeping up wet stuff. :-)
This is a fabulous little sweeper. It is easily held and pulled around. It has a heavy duty cord on it. The suction is incredible and very powerful. It has a cloth bag in it and that means it only has to be emptied. No bags to buy. I bought a new one to replace one that I have had for at least 20 years. I will pass my old one on to my daughter because it is still in good shape. I thought they were no longer made. I was thrilled when I found one on eBay! This is a very well made machine. I have never used any other vacuum that compares to the Portapower sweeper. The extension wands are made of steel. There are many attachments. Even more than with the first one I bought. I am sure I will have this new one for many years. I am also thinking of getting another one for the upstairs. You will be very happy if you purchase this Hoover model vacuum.Read full review
This vacuum is totally awesome. We have a cleaning company and that's where I was turned on it. It has great suction, and is light weight. The most satisfying for me is that dirt is picked up instead of being pushed around by a broom and doesn't go airborne. The canister is fairly small and the whole unit is easy to store. It seem that no matter how full it gets suction is never lost. There are many jobs that can be done with all the attachments. it is great for hard to sweep places like the bathroom. Over all thus is a great product that is worth the money several times over and I would recommend it to anyone.
This is a great straight suction vacuum.I would definitly recommend it for it's performance. Two little quibbles. I personally would prefer disposable paper bags to a cloth shake out bag which other reviewers have said cuts the suction power and is an extra cost adapter that is hard to find, and the dusting brush has really short bristles that don't do as good a job as the old Hoover dust brushes. Still hard to beat for compact portable cleaning however. Seems well constructed so if not dropped or abused it should last as well.
