My class used the edition that came out right after this one, but we used the online homework system which came with a digital copy of the book. I prefer a physical textbook when I'm reading though, so I looked for a cheap copy, but the newest edition was sooooo expensive. I bought this book because it was a fraction of the cost and very similar in Content. Problems are different than the new edition, but the readings are nearly identical. The text is actually very well written. I found that the example problems provided were very informative. If your professor isn't an amazing teacher... I think you will find this book very helpful even if it is not the edition used in your class.

I used the book "Advanced Engineering Mathematics" 2005 by Greyzig (Also named by some people Kreyszig) in my third semester of college. The course did not require the students of this class to go through all the chapters in the book;however, I felt disappointed with what I read in the book. I felt the book lacked a lot of explanation for many topics. The examples presented by the book were very short; in other words, they simplified too much. This simplification left me and other friends in the same class wondering how the book got the answers for some example problems. Its is true that it was an advance course, (And I do recommend a strong background in Calculus I and II) but the book could have done a bit more to explain the procedures. For those of you thinking that me or my friends were not good enough for this math class, I would like to inform you that we received an A- in the class. This shows that we knew what we were doing, but it was still difficult to understand how the book explained it. Nonetheless, I recommend the book if you want to pass the class. Also, do the practice problems in it. It is great practice for the exams. A final reminder, buy the international or Great Britain edition which will cost you less. It has the same content as the US version, but the only bad thing is that it is a bigger book. Please feel free to contact me through eBay if you want to share your opinion or ask me questions.Read full review
This book was used as the main text for an Engineering Problems class I took. Overall the book does a descent job in explaining most of the material. I had a horrible professor so I ended up having to teach myself everything. The book is written for higher level mathematics so if you do not have a descent background in mathematics (Calc 1 and 2, some Diff. Eqn. and Lin. Algebra), you may need more assistance and explanation with the material than what the book provides. Often steps of calculations are left out that deal with simplification and simpler calculus.
I bought this as a required text book for class. It's the basic text book, though I have noticed there is more material crammed into the chapters than other ODE text books, and there are not as many examples. Hard subject, definitely requires practice to learn the material. ps.. Has a really nice cover! =)
I bought Advanced Engineering Mathematics about two months ago for a class, and I think it is a good book for students to have. Along with the teachers direction, it is a good math book with some very detailed examples. It is a very big book though. If it could be condensed at all or maybe made into two books so you dont have to carry around so much at the same time it would be a better book.
