If you're looking to purchase Shakespeare's Hamlet, you probably already know the story. And do I really need to write a review of possibly the greatest play by the greatest Western playwrite? I don't think so. The only question is what kind of edition are you looking for? You can get a copy of Hamlet any way you want, from leather-bound to graphic novel. I chose the newer Folger edition (I believe the editors were changed about 2001.) because I like the readability of this format. Translation of Shakespeare's often difficult language is on the left page with the uninterrupted text on the right. There are no footnote numbers in the text to distract you. The translations are excellent, including as they do entire convoluted sentences of Shakespeare and translations of idioms that were popular in the 16th century. Each scene is summarized at the beginning in simple English so if you have trouble understanding a scene, you could go back and read the summary. The book also has excellent introductions to the play, the playwrite and the Globe Theatre. This is a good readable copy of Hamlet for the casual student of Shakespeare.Read full review
