"Saxon Math 6/5: Math 65: An Incremental Development" is designed for the average-to-advanced fifth-grade mathematics student. It could also be used for a sixth-grade student if appropriate. Free placement tests are available on the Saxon website. Saxon uses a spiral approach to learning. It teaches students a concept and then reviews it continuously as they learn new concepts. Every other day, the mixed practice section includes problems that integrate what the student has learned previously. This repeated exposure allows a student to increase understanding and gain mastery. The "Saxon Math" book is used in schools and is popular in homeschool scenarios. This Saxon textbook is designed for a student to use on a daily basis. It takes a rules-based approach to instruction. Some students will be able to advance through this book independently. That makes this text ideal for homeschooled children. The program builds upon concepts previously taught in the "Math 4/5" book. It includes the continual development of concepts, such as whole numbers and mixed numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, and negative numbers. Lessons involve multiplication, division, patterns and functions, measurement, statistics and probability, common denominators, powers and roots, graphing, and geometry. Students are also exposed to the concepts of the order of operations, integers, divisibility concepts, ratios, and prime and composite numbers.Saxon is often considered a back-to-basics teaching method and is a trusted brand for home study and in school settings. It takes an integrated approach that's designed to review and expand on previous lessons. Each lesson in this edition includes warmups, an introduction of new concepts, lessons, and mixed practice problems. By the end of the book, students will learn about making a multiplication table, multiplying by multiples of 10 and 100, decimals in the metric system, and much more.Saxon takes a practical approach to instruction, emphasizing problem-solving presented through word problems. Students are asked to use mathematical tools and methods to solve real-life mathematical situations. The "Saxon Math 6/5" second edition draws on a variety of instructional components. The learner will undertake facts drills, mental math, and problem-solving. The second edition textbook includes daily lessons, daily practice, daily problem sets, and cumulative tests. John Saxon self-published his first high school mathematics textbook in 1981 after it was rejected by traditional publishers. He later enlisted other authors to help with lower-grade texts. This hardcover second edition of "Saxon Math 6/5" from 2000 was co-written by Stephen Hake and published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company.The "Saxon Math 6/5" book can be a complete math curriculum for homeschoolers, classrooms, and tutorials when additional instruction is needed. It is in use both in a number of schools and in many homeschooling families. A homeschooled student can use this edition alone or with a separate test booklet, solutions manual, worksheets, and supplementary materials. BEST math program EVER!
We homeschool but this is the ONLY time that I have ever received the text book, test booklet, and the answer booklet together. Weve ordered from different sites but we were able to find the combination mentioned above on ebay. Saxon math is by far the BEST math curriculum ever! It is challenging but it also explains really well how to do the work. ALL children are smart they just learn at different paces. My son is doing so much better since we switched to Saxon! Great great find!

Saxon Homeschool Math
This will be my second year using Saxon Homeschool Math, and they are great. The first year I homeschooled my 2 daughters, my oldest had Saxon Math, and my younger had another brand. The Saxon was far superior, so I chose to use it for both this year. Before each lesson, there was a timed lesson to reinforce basic math skills, which has been great. Each lesson also has a review of previous skills learned in addition to the new material. Saxon Math is the best and would recommend it to anybody who homeschools.

I am a homeschooling mom and have used Saxon for several years. I love the program. My oldest found it a little boring, however she scored in the 99 percentile on the Stanford sooooooo....Depending on your child's ability a pace of one lesson per day can sometimes be overwhelming. Slow the pace down if necessary. Memorize those math facts-Instant recall of facts speeds up the process considerably. Also by Saxon 54, a child who is a strong reader can study math independently with your supervision.

I love the book. Saxon is always a good math book. My daughter was having a hard time in her 6th grade book. I decided to try Saxon 6/5 math and it has helped. The book was said to have been aired out from being in a smokers house. This book still smells like smoke when I open it after a couple months being opened about every day. My husband smokes (outside) so I didn't think it would bother us that much. It is a strong smell. Diane
